Balayage 101

Find out if balayage is right for you.

Balayage is here to stay!

Since it’s a technique and not a trend, balayage continues to evolve. The one thing that remains constant is beautiful hair…and that’s timeless.

Balayage is one of the most requested hair color services in the salon but you may still not be sure what it is or if it’s right for you. And pronouncing the word…forget it! Biolage? Booleyage? FYI it’s pronounced bah-lay-ahge but don’t worry nobody says it right the first time!

What is balayage?

Balayage is a French highlighting technique, literally meaning “to sweep.” This process involves painting the surface of the hair to create color that is soft, natural, and dimensional.

Why balayage?

This type of color application allows for a seamless blend of color with a very soft grow out. No stripes, blotches, or harsh lines! Beautiful color that’s low maintenance? It’s obvious why it’s so popular!

Another bonus is that balayage is totally customized to you. There are no cookie cutter patterns being used and all color placement is hand painted to best accentuate your hair. This adds a personal touch because no two balayages are ever the same!

Balayage Maintenance Tips.

Okay so it may be LOW maintenance but that doesn’t mean NO maintenance!

Just because a balayage can go up to 6 months without being touched up doesn’t mean it doesn’t need a little love.

Here are a few things you can do between appointments to make sure your balayage stays looking its best!

It’s recommended that balayage clients come in for a glossing service every 8 weeks. This will refresh the tone and shine of the hair that inevitably fades over time.

Adding a K18 Molecular Repair Service to your gloss is also a good idea to ensure your hair will be healthy and strong when it comes time to balayage again.

It’s necessary to use the right products at home to make sure your hair retains its color and health. Investing in the right color safe shampoo is important for the longevity of the color.

Drugstore shampoos tend to have harsher cleansing agents so using them will wash your color right down the drain! Too much time and money goes into your amazing color for that to happen right?

If your blonde locks tends to get brassy between visits a color depositing purple shampoo or conditioner is the way to go. Finally, you gotta keep that hair moisturized so using a hydrating hair mask once a week is a must!
